Every Monday we post some thoughts in our Perriams Pacesetter, containing fresh thoughts for the week, the weekend just gone, and a bit of left field. Click below to read.
Perriams Pacesetter – 13 April 2026
TOPICAL
How good was the turnout of numbers for the Christchurch City Marathon? 8,400 entries, of which they say 40% were from outside of Christchurch. One has to give a huge shout out to the organisers and supporters.
GEM
There is talk already about what nickname is going to be given to Christchurch’s new stadium, Te Kaha.
But hold the horses! Let’s wait until we’ve been there, had a feel of the vibe, then see what sticks.
OF INTEREST
This week Fonterra will pay out to its farmers and investors a capital repayment of $3.2 billion and a special dividend of $700 million. It’s just what our economy needs with the hit we have taken on fuel. Diesel shouldn’t be a problem if you are a Fonterra dairy farmer.
OPINION
Reading the Sunday Star Times in the weekend and if you didn’t catch it, it’s worth sharing, “The average Kiwi is running out of gas in more ways than one”. The article went on to outline how many Kiwis are simply struggling in everyday life. It shouldn’t be like this in “Godzone”.
Winston Peters – rising support. Is his swan song to politics going to be the Kingmaker that is Prime Minister? The polls are suggesting that this is not out of the question!
SPOTLIGHT
Artemis II touched down in the Pacific Ocean with the perfect landing. A positive news story from the USA and a welcome change from the news of the conflicts in the Middle East. Bet you don’t go to work travelling at 39,000km/h. 😊
THE MARKETS
AI Casualty Ward. Whilst we’ve recently witnessed numerous hospitality and construction companies collapse, it seems the world’s fastest growth industry, AI, is not immune. Soul Machines, an Auckland founded maker of AI-powered virtual customer service people has collapsed owing $19.6 million, and it won’t be the last.

PERRIAMS POWER RANKINGS
Each week we announce Perriams “Game Changers” for the week.
- How can we go past the Wahs’ win over the Melbourne Storm? We can’t and we won’t, yes you guessed it, it’s their year. Now third on the table😊
- The two climbers that survived three nights on a Fiordland mountainside is what police are calling a remarkable survival story and we love these stories.
- Cycle Vaianu forced Taupo to cancel the Supercars event on Sunday. You’ve got to feel bad for all the thousands of people who assembled in Taupo to watch the event, travel and accommodation are not cheap. What about those who were only banking on Sunday’s event?
