Perriams Pacesetter – 15 June 2026

Blog 15th June 2026

Every Monday we post some thoughts in our Perriams Pacesetter, containing fresh thoughts for the week, the weekend just gone, and a bit of left field. Click below to read.

GEM

Kane Williamson, NZ’s best ever batsman pulls up stumps for the last time, retiring from all first-class cricket.

As to Kane’s timing it’s a bit odd but only he will know why he chose to make the announcement in the middle of the series!

SPOTLIGHT

It wasn’t even close on Friday night. The Chiefs won the battle, and The Crusaders had their biggest ever margin loss in Super Rugby history.

Let’s get back to One Stadium! So next year, we do better under the roof!

OF INTEREST

Did you know that the war in the Ukraine has now gone on longer than World War 1? 4 years and 3 months or 1569 days.

Estimates are that between 9 and 11 million soldiers may have died in World War 1 compared to half a million in the Ukraine so far.

Time for this to cease.

SPORTIFY

It wasn’t all bad between the Crusaders and the Chiefs on Friday night. Why is that?

We drew the second half!

TOPICAL

SpaceX.

What happens when you get to space? You generally come back down and so with the share price being priced at 200 x future EBITDA there is a lot of room to come down.

SpaceX can’t yet even get to an EBITDA as it doesn’t make a profit. So, the jury is out. The hype’s not so much about space it’s about SpaceX’s inroads into AI.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK?

With Coca Cola NZ reporting a record $109m profit it proves more Kiwis are consuming their products.

So more obesity, diabetes and other health related issues leading to more hospital admissions.

Is it time for a sugar tax in this election and also time outlaw selling a big bottle of coke for 99 cents?

OPINION

The evidence connecting social media and poor mental health for those under 16 is growing.

Just as tobacco was linked with lung cancer back in the 1950’s, so now are our phones linked with mental health.

But bans won’t be enough, it’s about education. Tobacco has never been banned but through education we knew it was a killer.

THE MARKETS

All the hype about the AI stocks and then last week the listing of SpaceX, but what about our old friend Bitcoin?

So, what’s Bitcoin up to? Well, if you haven’t been following it, its price has halved over the past six months, sitting at around $110,000.
