Every Monday we post some thoughts in our Perriams Pacesetter, containing fresh thoughts for the week, the weekend just gone, and a bit of left field. Click below to read.
Perriams Pacesetter – 2 June 2026
GEM
To all the recipients on the King’s Honours List over the weekend – Congrats! One of the good things about the list is that many of the recipients, who you have not been aware of, and simply got on with it and worked behind the scenes, get the recognition they deserve.
SPOTLIGHT
What a terrible weekend on our roads with seven deaths, the worst in a decade! We are often just driving too fast for the conditions. Oh! And the cellphones should just be thrown onto the backseat.
SPORTIFY
Whilst the Super Rugby finals loom this weekend there is a much bigger tournament that is about to take the stage very soon.
On the 15/06/2026 the Football World Cup kicks off in the US.
TOPICAL
Nicola Willis speaking to the issue on the budget about our Supernation system and acknowledging that it will need to be changed. She said she wanted to “dwell on it” given the size of the problem.
Come on Nicola, tells us what everybody else is telling us other than Winston! That the age has to be lifted.
OF INTEREST
Anthropic AI code writer is now worth more than open AI having now released Claude Optus 4.8.
It’s turnover for the current month of May will be more than $47 billion.
This is monopoly money on steroids and how much more can the Company be worth before something gives. 🙁
OPINION
Really?! You can now book yourself into an internet addiction clinic in the US!
THE MARKETS
Well, someone is not hurting in these current economic times. The golden arches (McDonald’s) sales are up 6.4% year on year and reported a Net Profit in NZ of $108.7m. Not that the writer eats at McDonald’s, it’s no longer a cheap buy!
OCR 2.25% ↓ November 2025 CPI 3.1% ↑ January 2026 Unemployment 5.4% ↑ December 2025 House Price Movement 2.3% ↑ July 2024 Rent Price Movement 4.3% ↑ July 2024

PERRIAMS POWER RANKINGS – 2 June 2026
Each week we announce Perriams “Game Changers” for the week.
- The Crusaders win against the Hurricanes on Friday night as they march into the finals round. Another sell out at the One NZ Stadium.
- Yes, the Wahs ended up second but if you saw it, wasn’t it a fantastic game? The Wahs were bloody unlucky not to come out with a win, but The Wahs will leave that to the finals 😊
- Moana Pascifika won against the Brumbies over the weekend despite their 2027 year looking up in the air. There’s no question we need them in our competition so the powers that be just need to make that happen. How about that Winston!
