Perriams Pacesetter – 22 June 2026

Blog 22nd June 2026

Every Monday we post some thoughts in our Perriams Pacesetter, containing fresh thoughts for the week, the weekend just gone, and a bit of left field. Click below to read.

GEM

Has to go to the Hurricanes win in the Super Rugby final over the Chiefs.

In trying conditions (windy Wellington) the Hurricanes put on a show that left the Chiefs with no answers.

And how good was Ruben Love 😊

HOT TOPIC

Aptly named our heading this week, as Christchurch recorded its hottest June day ever!

High winds and unseasonably hot weather!

SPOTLIGHT

There’s only one topic on this week’s agenda and it starts today at 1:00pm. NZ VS Egypt.

By the time you read this it’s likely the game is over.

We’ll take a draw, but wouldn’t NZ beating Egypt be something off the grid!

TAX TALK

Aussies up their tax which might be good for NZ property.

Where before assets held for more than 12 months were subject to a tax discount, this has been replaced by a CPI based indexing on assets and a minimum tax rate of 30% is intended for capital gains –

Ouch!

OF INTEREST

Over the next 25 years NZ will see $1.6 trillion of baby boomer wealth move. That includes houses, farms, businesses, investments and savings that are going to change hands.

Who are going to be the lucky ones?

SPORTIFY

What a blow for the All Blacks and new coach Dave Rennie with Leicester Fainga’anuku out for up to 12 weeks.

The All Blacks are named at 1:00 today and everybody likes a bolter, so who will it be?

OPINION

The National party kicked off their 90th annual conference over the weekend with Prime Minister Luxon coming out with a good one liner.

“Elections aren’t won in this room; they are won on the doorsteps”.

The polls still say it’s going to be close. What do you think?

What’s to like is their recently announced KiwiSaver policy for all workers starting 1 July 2028. Contribution rates being phased in through to 2032 culminating in a mandatory 6% from employers.

That makes 12%, which is where Australia is at now.

THE MARKETS

The average investor who brought SpaceX shares in the open market after its debut has seen nearly all of their gains disappear as a sharp pullback has erased a large chunk of the stocks post IPO surge.

OCR 2.25% ↓ November 2025 CPI 3.1% ↑ January 2026 Unemployment 5.4% ↑ December 2025 House Price Movement 2.3% ↑ July 2024 Rent Price Movement 4.3% ↑ July 2024

Only 187 days to go until Christmas!

PERRIAMS POWER RANKINGS – 22 June 2026

Each week we announce Perriams “Game Changers” for the week.

  1. Our NZ Blackcaps test win over England in the second test at the Oval must take top spot this week. How good and on their home turf.
  2. The crazy score which the Hurricanes absolutely dealt to the Chiefs. They were just so good, and no one would have predicted the score line.
  3. The Wahs at Christchurch’s One Stadium. Not necessarily the win but the crowd, the sell out, the support and hype that surrounded the game under the roof!

Ready to sow the first seed? Let's talk!
