Every Monday we post some thoughts in our Perriams Pacesetter, containing fresh thoughts for the week, the weekend just gone, and a bit of left field. Click below to read.
Perriams Pacesetter – 23 March 2026
TOPICAL
The battle goes on in Central Otago between Santana Minerals’ Bendigo Ophir Gold Project and its Central Otago neighbours. Its economic ambition versus environmental protection. Yes, it’s an iconic landscape, as it was during the Gold Rush, which began in 1861 in that same region, adding value to NZ’s small economy back then. Australia has resources and they mine them, and so shouldn’t we? Do we have a choice based on our current economic climate?
GEM
Chuck Norris sadly passing. Remember, you oldies: Walker, Texas Ranger (a classic!) or Bruce Lee versus Chuck Norris in The Way of the Dragon.
OF INTEREST
The average plastic bag in the world has an average use of 15 minutes, yet it doesn’t break down. The big question is when are we getting a better alternative. Online shopping must be a huge contributor to this problem.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK
Our concern over fuel supplies. Things are starting to feel a little like Covid, aren’t they?
HOT TOPIC
NZ’s economic recovery — flumph! Just when it was starting to turn.
THE MARKETS
Are there any winners in New Zealand in the current fuel situation we find ourselves in? Those selling petrol cans have all sold out. Could it simply be a shift to buses and that we develop a liking for bussing? Could this be a game changer?
