Perriams Pacesetter — 29 June 2026
GEM
NZ’s best stock performer on the NZX is Infratil, returning 42.24% in share price growth over the last 12 months 😊 Hope you have some!
Not such a GEM 🙁 was Gentrack, weighing in at a loss in share price value of 56.41%.
TOPICAL
While Europe melts in the heatwave, it’s great to see the cold snap that hit the South Island at the end of last week.
Why is that? Think about our ski fields and all the associated businesses that rely on snow. More snow is still needed — so more cold snaps are needed!
SPOTLIGHT
The death toll in Venezuela has now reached over 1,400 people, with a frantic search for survivors continuing in the rubble. With thousands injured and thousands still unaccounted for, our thoughts go out to the country and to the families of all the victims.
OF INTEREST
The NZ Super Fund has just surpassed ANZ Bank as NZ’s biggest taxpayer.
SPORTIFY
The All Whites’ dream of making the second round of the FIFA World Cup is over, beaten convincingly by Belgium 5–1. But let’s put this into perspective: five years ago, Belgium were ranked No. 1 in the world. Next time — four years from now — what does our future look like? We’ll have to be better. 😊
Who’s the front runner to win this World Cup? Hard to go past France at this point!
OPINION
If you have a high, almost uncomfortable, concentration of stocks invested in the US markets, should this cause you to review and reflect on what your exposure really is?
Investing through index and exchange-traded funds has, over recent years, been simple and effective — including a great opportunity for diversification. But every few decades, the very thing the index is supposed to deliver — diversification — might just quietly disappear. On that point, all of the top 10 stocks on the S&P 500 are exposed to AI.
THE MARKETS
Tech capital markets and the entrepreneurs they support are shrugging off our NZ economic doldrums and the geopolitical uncertainties that beset others, with capital still flooding into Kiwi innovation. There’s no longer the attraction to investment in what was a good old ‘Blue Chip’ stock on the NZ stock exchange. 10–20 years ago, people were focused on lower-risk, dividend-paying, high-income investments with stability — not so now.

PERRIAMS POWER RANKINGS – 29 June 2026
Each week we announce Perriams “Game Changers” for the week.
Following the All Whites’ journey to the FIFA World Cup and their first round. Yes, they’re out now, but we all held a glimmer of hope as they took the field against Belgium. Sport unites us all, there’s no doubt about it — whether you follow football or not.
At the time of writing NZ is six wickets away from a Test Series win over England with a day to go. So here’s forecasting a win!
What happened to our Wahs on Saturday? It was a heartbreaker, beaten just before full time by the Dolphins 26–24. But it’s not been all bad — 10 wins and 5 losses so far this year. Is it still going to be the Wahs’ year?
