Over the past 40 years property in NZ has been seen to be the clearest path to getting ahead financially. But has this now changed?

Other than the Queenstown Lake Districts which is a totally different market than any other region, NZ property values in the past 5 years have been tough and hard to predict.

Owning a rental property as a strategy is now under real pressure with our higher interest rates, weaker immigration, static rents and in some places dropping and a struggling economy. And then there is a younger generation putting their spare coin into sharesies.

So will we get the capital grown property that we have seen over the last 40 years.?

PERRIAMS POWER RANKINGS – 8 June 2026

Each week we announce Perriams “Game Changers” for the week.

1. It has to be our Crusaders win over the Blues of Friday night at One Stadium and another sell out. The assignment has now got a whole lot tougher with a trip now to cowbell land on Friday night for the semi.
2. Sneaking in at number 2 this weekend is NZ loss to England over the weekend as their last warm up game before the football world cup gets underway. It was only 1-0 to England and they are currently ranked 4th in the word. This has to give us confidence that if every player plays 25% better than they have ever before. That everything goes like clockwork and the opposition performs poorly then we just might have a real chance of getting through the first pool round😊
3. The Wah’s and why? Because they got another 2 points for the bye.
